In relation to its Special Voluntary Disclosure Programme, the Lembaga Hasil Dalam Negeri (LHDN) has sent letters and emails to registered taxpayers who failed to submit their income tax return forms regularly.

Those who have received such emails and letters are told not to worry but are encouraged to contact LHDN immediately for further clarification instead. The CEO of LHDN, Datuk Seri Sabin Samitah told The Star that the Special Voluntary Disclosure Programme offers a lower penalty rate for several categories of taxpayers. It is between 10% to 15% of the tax payable of the income that goes unreported.

Apart from the earlier mentioned issue, those who have submitted their forms but have been discovered to have tax compliance issues will also be receiving emails or letters. He elaborated,

“About 8.3 million letters and emails have been sent to registered taxpayers to notify them of the special voluntary disclosure programme which began on November 3, 2018 and would end on June 30, 2019.”

Sabin clarified that those who have settled their issues within the stipulated period can just ignore them. LHDN, however, has advised Malaysians to be wary of scammers that would take advantage of this programme to manipulate the public and steal their money.

That is why everyone who receives any letter or email related to their taxes are advised to obtain further information related to the programme by visiting the nearest LHDN offices. Otherwise, you can call their careline at 1-800-88-5436 if you are in the country or +60377136666 if you are overseas. You can also email to ym.vog.lisahobfsctd-224bcf@alerakusnaukagnep.

Friends, if you have failed to file your taxes properly; do take this opportunity to do your duties as a responsible Malaysian. Don’t wait until it is too late!
