In Asian countries, rattan or more familiarly known as the rotan is often used to punish students that decide to be the “rogue one” and disobey school rules. It only takes one fluid swinging motion of the rattan to make student cry like a baby because sakit weyh.
Physical punishment is arguably needed in desperate times but 99 cane strokes for a student? It’s a bit too much la if you ask me.
In Thailand, a 7-year-old primary school student was severely caned by his teacher because he wanted to leave the classroom a little earlier. The 23-year-old young teacher then decided to punish the boy by caning him 99 times, Kwongwah reported.
The boy’s body was swollen from the caning. His back, arms and buttocks were covered in red marks. He also suffered from high fever as a result of the caning.

After the incident, the teacher refused to apologise, and only offers compensation to the boy when confronted by the parents. When asked about the reason of caning the boy, the teacher said that the boy was disobedient for wanting to leave the classroom early. This prompted the teacher to cane the boy 99 times.
What’s worse, the teacher showed no signs of remorse!
The school authority had arranged a meeting between the teacher’s mother and the boy’s parents to negotiate the terms of compensation. However, the parents now refused to accept any compensation since the teacher did not feel guilty at all, especially when the punishment meted out was too much for the little boy.
The parents sought assistance from the police regarding this matter.
For me, 3 cane stokes should do the job well, but 99 cane strokes? That is too much even for Asian punishment standards!
