In a report by Medium that recently went viral, one relatively hidden feature of iPhone’s location services has gotten some people spooked over the sheer details of it.
According to the article, the feature is known as “Significant Locations” list, which shows a minute-by-minute log of a user’s exact whereabouts in every location visited over the last few years.

Here’s how you can access your log;
- Open the Settings app
- Go to Privacy
- Go to Location Services
- Go to System Services (at the very bottom of the list of apps)
- Click on Significant Locations and log in with your TouchID, FaceID or passcode
- Find your hometown’s location on the list
- Go to Home
Once you select Home, a detailed minute-by-minute list of your travels to and from your home!
While this service is reportedly encrypted information and therefore can’t be read by Apple, it does raise some concerns about the extent to which our data is being monitored.

However, it could be of relief to some users that this Significant Locations feature can be turned off by merely moving the switch to the off position. Users can also scroll to the bottom of their location history and select Clear History.
