The campaign for the 2025 Ayer Kuning by-election is ongoing, and people in the Perak constituency are expected to cast their ballots on April 26.

The Minister of Tourism, Arts, and Culture, Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing, had a message to Chinese voters in the area.

“If Chinese voters don’t vote and if PAS wins the by-election, the shorts worn by female performers could only be their decoration at home.”

Tiong said this during the “Perak Unity Dinner 2.0”, adding that the Chinese Community should stand firm and defend their rights through voting.

At the event, several female performers were spotted on the stage.

According to Tiong, during the Ayer Hitam by-election, some parties tried to play with sensitive issues, especially the Islamic Party (PAS), which raised the issue of pig farms that have a history of more than 70 years, which Tiong regretted.

“Why bring up this long-standing issue of pig farms? It shows that they have nothing else to talk about,” reported China Press.

Tiong also highlighted that Malaysia is a multi-ethnic society, and everyone should emphasise mutual respect and tolerance rather than using sensitive issues to intensify conflicts.

“We must clearly express our position to PAS that we do not agree with their approach,” Tiong said.

The Ayer Kuning by-election was called following the death of incumbent Ishsam Shahruddin on 22 February 2025.

Tiong also said that in Ayer Kuning alone, there are more than 6,000 Chinese voters, and the minister urged them to carry out their responsibility by voting on April 26.
