Zafrul: Tesla Has Invested RM59.1 Mil in M’sia So Far & is Committed to Developing Nation’s EV Ecosystem

The Ministry of Investment, Trade and Industry (MITI) held a meeting yesterday (22 Aug) with Tesla representatives from the US at Menara MITI to discuss the company’s investment plans in Malaysia.

Taking to his official Facebook page, MITI Minister Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul shared the fruitful outcome of the meeting and revealed Tesla’s commitments to strengthening the Electric Vehicle (EV) ecosystem in our country.

The MITI Minister asserted that the meeting yesterday focused on the progress and implementation of his Ministry’s Global Battery Electric Vehicle (BEV) AP Scheme.

Accordingly, Tengku Zafrul said that as of July 2024, Tesla has installed 52 Supercharger units with 250kW capacity, 54 Wall Connector AC charger units, and more than 4,500 home charger units in Peninsular Malaysia.

The MITI Minister added that Tesla has made investments reaching USD13.5 million or approximately RM59.1 million so far, solidifying the company’s commitment to the development of EV charging infrastructure in our country.

Besides that, MITI and Tesla also discussed the great potential of battery energy storage technology which is expected to increase energy efficiency and stability of Malaysia’s electricity grid.

 

Tesla will collaborate with local universities for knowledge transfer

Moving forward, Tesla has reiterated its support for Malaysia’s local ecosystem by involving 9 local companies in developing EV charging infrastructure.

Furthermore, Tesla will also collaborate with local institutes of higher learning for knowledge transfer and human capital development.

Tengku Zafrul thus lauded Tesla’s collaboration as expected to drive Malaysia towards becoming the main hub for green technology in the region.

The MITI Minister asserted,

“May this joint effort continue to grow, bringing great benefits to our country’s economy, technology and sustainable energy.”
