Just last week, controversial preacher Dr. Zakir Naik was reportedly facing the possibility of being deported back to India. He was said to be arrested in Oman, where he was scheduled to deliver a lecture there.

As of today (March 28), there have been no updates about the preacher being extradited back to India. That’s because the news about his arrest was made up, as confirmed by his lawyer, Datuk Akberdin Abdul Kader. In an interview with Harian Metro, Akberdin said that Zakir Naik is still currently in Oman as he has a few scheduled programs and lectures that have yet to be delivered.

So, what’s next for the preacher? According to Akberdin, Dr. Zakir Naik is scheduled to return to Malaysia soon after he has completed his lectures in Oman. The details of his return to Malaysia, however, are being kept confidential for safety purposes.

In response to his “arrest” in Oman, Akberdin denied all allegations and said that Zakir’s safety in Muscat has always been a priority.

“He’s being treated well in Muscat. Zakir also sent his regards and said that he is safe at a hotel,” Akberdin added.

On March 22, Zakir Naik announced his arrival in Oman via an Instagram post.

In case you’re not aware, Zakir, who is 57 years old has been residing in Malaysia for many years as a permanent resident and he is facing charges of money laundering, terrorism, and creating religious tensions. According to India Today, a café bombing in Dhaka, Bangladesh that took place in 2016 was allegedly inspired by Zakir Naik. One of the bombers told Bangladeshi investigators that he was influenced by Zakir’ preaching through his YouTube channel.

In 2018, the Indian government wanted Zakir to be extradited back to the country and even applied for his extradition, reported New Straits Times.

A year later,  Zakir Naik was banned from speaking in Malaysia following his racial remarks about the Chinese and the Hindus.

As of today, the preacher is still actively updating his social media on his recent talks in Omar.
