Most of us have probably only seen the parliament on the TV, by driving by or by taking a guided tour when we were in school.

However, this is the first time in history that the parliament will open up its doors to the public in the form of an open day.

This open day is only two days long, 6 – 7 May and from 9 am to 5 pm and will allow Malaysians to “learn more about its role as the country’s highest legislative body and its history.”

According to BERNAMA, the event was officiated by Dewan Negara Speaker Tan Sri Dr Rais Yatim who said that the number of visitors who went to the open house “shows that the legislation of the country is well supported by the people.”

“The building signifies that the rights that exist in Parliament are the rights of the people,” he added.

The officiating event was also attended by foreign ambassadors and other dignitaries as well.

This open day is not just a drabby tour of the parliamentary halls as there are also exhibitions on statesmen, books, cultural and arts performances and traditional food demonstrations. There will also be food trucks and vendors selling arts and crafts along with paintings and caricatures.

As today (7 May) is the last day of this open day, you should definitely go and check out the parliamentary building!
