With the new Covid-19 cases reported in several malls located in KL & Selangor, many people who live nearby are questioning why MySejahtera is not alerting them of the cases.

This has caused dissatisfaction to the point that #MySejahtera has been trending on Twitter. Many netizens compared the application to FourSquare (a famous check-in application) and say that it doesn’t serve its functions.

The Malaysian Ministry of Health has caught wind of the issue and they have issued out a statement, which they soon deleted. After adding a few more lines and the MoH watermark, they have reissued the statement.

Here it is:

“There are many concerns on social media on the use of Hotspot Tracker on MySejahtera mobile application.”

“Recently, NuSentral Mall, KL Gateway Mall, Sunway Pyramid Mall and Suria KLCC came up with press statements on staff being tested positive which led to disinfection and cleaning activities being carried out.”

“As a matter of fact, a location being considered as a hotspot is purely based on in-depth investigation by MOH on the definite and possible source of infection. All these are based on facts and science. Henceforth, all the above-mentioned malls are not the source or potential source of COVID-19 infection.”

“Appreciation should be given to the said malls for their proactive action as it is a standard operating procedure as per MOH prevention and control action strategy.”

“We would like to also commend Malaysians at large for using the functions of MySejahtera regularly and it is evident that everyone is updated about the happenings on COVID-19. We also urge Malaysians and residents in Malaysia to only share information based on facts so as not to create unnecessary panic in the community.”

What do you think of their explanation? Let us know in the comments!
